“On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, ‘Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?’ He said, ‘Go into the city to a certain man, and tell him, ‘The teacher says, ‘My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.’ The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.” (Matthew 26:17-19)
The term "Sacristan" comes from the Latin word sacer, which means sacred. Sacristans carry out most of their ministry in the background, and are in many ways the “homemakers” of the Church. Sacristans may be of any age or either gender.
They are the prayerful volunteers entrusted with the responsibility to care for the sacred vessels and the preparation of the vessels and other elements before and after Mass. Sacristans are vital to an effective and efficient celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.
Our sacristans are zealous in their commitment to foster good worship here at St. Cecilia Parish. They are charged with setting up all the liturgical elements that are needed; these include the Missal, the sacred vessels used for Eucharist, the altar linens, candles, bread and wine, charcoal and incense, and holy oils to name just a few.
