People experience the presence of Jesus Christ in the world through the various ministries of the Church. The first task of the parish community is to reach out to all people in Christian love and service. Christian hospitality draws people together, opens them to participation, and sets the tone for the liturgy.
Ministers of Hospitality (sometimes called Ushers) are entrusted with promoting a sense of welcoming and belonging to all the faithful assembled for worship. At most times, Ministers of Hospitality will be the first people they see when they come to worship here at St. Cecilia Parish. Because of this, they have a special and crucial role in preparation for the liturgy.
In addition, the following attributes will assist the Ministers of Hospitality to see the face of Jesus in the face of each and every person who comes into our church: patience, reverence, sensitivity, compassion, understanding, gentleness, embracing a sense of the family gathered as the Body of Christ.
It is also important that our Hospitality Ministers offer a smile to those who enter our church, for a simple smile is recognized as an international sign of welcome to all.
Lastly, at the Last Supper, Jesus himself provided the example of hospitality when he washed the feet of his Apostles. Those who participate in this Ministry are responding faithfully to Christ's example.
